What do you want to be when you grow up? Most likely, people have asked you that question since you were 5 years old, and the answer has probably changed many times–Doctor, lawyer, firefighter, astronaut … maybe a teacher.

In Oh! The Possibilities, a rhyming picture book, Lori Calabrese shows the anxiety some children face when posed with the question, “What would you like to be when you grow up?”

When Miles’ teacher asks the class what they’re going to be when they grow up, Miles slumps in his chair. Everyone else in the class seems to know what they’d like to do, except him. More than anything, Miles dreams of being a dragon. What boy doesn’t want that? But he realizes he only has human genes and must decide on something soon. Miles thinks of all the possibilities, but since there are so many, there’s just no way he’ll be able to decide today.

In today’s fast paced world where a 5-year-olds’ day runner is sometimes busier than an adults, Oh! The Possibilities is a friendly reminder that its readers don’t have to decide today what their career will be and they’re in no rush to grow up. Further, it helps the reader realize there are many professions for them to choose; they can become anything they aspire to be; and whatever they choose, their parents will be proud.

Oh! the Possibilities is a humorous way for parents and teachers to discuss careers, and the importance of perseverance and an education. It also stresses the love and support of parents.
