It's no secret how much I love The Beautiful Dead YA series by Eden Maguire, so when I found out Beautiful Dead: Summer was out, I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy.
The same premise remains as in Book 1 and 2-- What if you died by a strange and sudden circumstance and had the opportunity to come back to right the wrong and bring about justice? Such is the case for The Beautiful Dead, a group of teenagers who have died from strange and sudden circumstances. Call them zombies, the new vampires, whatever you like, but the group comes back from the dead to solve each of their mysteries. And there to help each one is Darina, the grief-stricken girlfriend of one of the Beautiful Dead, Phoenix.
In this third installment, the Beautiful Dead returns from limbo to solve the murder of Summer, a budding singer. Darina's mission is to help Summer solve the mystery behind her untimely death. Was it a random shooting? Or was the gifted singer the victim of an obsessive fan?
You'll be at the edge of your chair as Darina gets closer and closer to solving the mystery. Maguire continues to transport us right into the setting of an abandoned farm and she crafts the story so nicely that each twist and turn will leave you guessing as to who did it. And just like in the previous books, you can't get enough of Darina and Phoenix as the clock is ticking to their last day together (again!).
Can't wait for Book #4: Phoenix!
